The engine color is a dark blue/gray. The same color was used from 1929-1952, 1953 stick shift engines and various truck engines up to 1962.
The correct color is available from ....www.chevsofthe40s.com.....

The followings parts were "engine color"
Balancer, water pump, valve cover, oil pan, flywheel housing and its covers, manifolds and their attaching hardware, and the oil distributor valve, left lower side of block.
The fan, oil filler, gen. and starter, distributot, transmission was black.
The engine parts that are gray were bolted together then the engine was painted. This means that the attaching bolt heads, edges of gaskets, etc and the acorn nuts holding down the valve cover were blue/gray.

You probably already know but there is a lot of wood in the early Chevys, rear window frame, doors and a couple other places. Check for the condition before you get deep into resto.
