If you buy the unterminated harnesses for ignition, injectors, or main wiring do you get the proper connectors for terminating them? Is the main harness already pre-terminated at the ECU end? Do you need a Weather Pack crimper or a Metri-pack?

Thanks!
John

John,

Yes, the 550-605 HP ECU & Unterminated harness includes the connectors and is terminated on the ECU end. The leads are 15ft. The connectors are Metripac 150.

Thanks Dennis, Guess I need to invest in a good metripac tool, after all these years using weatherpac.

I am sure I am missing something but what is a METRIPAC tool. On this side of the pond we dont have such a device.

The proper terminal crimp and pin extractor tools make a world of difference when your trying to do a nice clean install or repair.

Doug,
Quick question;

After all of the self learning is finished, with the 3 new Holley EFI systems, is there an option to turn off that function and run with locked cells? Or maybe limit it to lets say, 5% ?

I would hate to lose a spark plug wire then have the computer lean out the remaining 7 cylinders because of a false rich condition.

Yes, you can disable the Learning function (self-tuning) or select the percentage of Learning compensation (kPa x RPM, + & -).

Dennis,

Do you sell an ECU and harness for the Avenger unit? If so, how much is it?

FAST came out with their EZ-EFI ecu and harness last month. It is about $950 retail. I'm trying to figure out the cheapest way to convert my 3 cars to self tuning, 2 already have throttle bodies and 1 has multi-port.

The HP has the same self tuning fuel table the Avenger has. The Avenger just allows "simpler" global changes vs the HP which has similar tuning tables like the C950 (AE, etc).

The HP is the cheapest ECU & Harness kit available from Holley. Cost range between $1399 and $1449. It includes ECU, Main and Injector Harness (TBI or Multiport) and all new sensors including WBO2. There are several major differences but wanted to note: Holley has igntion control, FAST EZ EFI does not.

The Fast EZ isn't in the same class as the Holley HP EFI.
It lacks most of the tuning parameters the HP has.

The HP-Holley is still $500 more than the FAST. That is why I was trying to see if the Avenger was cheaper in price, without sensors, WB, and throttle body. The benefits of ignition control have been discussed here in great detail already. One of my systems is still running the weight and vacuum advanced distributor and runs very well. If I lose ignition, I'm able to fix it with a few parts in my tool box or parts store without having to carry a spare EFI-ECU.

When it comes down to it, "cheapest" and "self tuning" were my key words.

We recently installed a Holey HP ECM in replacement of a C950 to take advantage of the extra/new features. Especially important were the CAN bus interface and single wire Gauge Output.

This is a Marine application with a GM Vortec MPFI engine so we wanted to be able to get the Holley HP data on the vessel CAN Bus up to the Helm station 50 feet away.

After finding no mention in the manuals on interface to CAN bus and Gauge Out – calls to Holley Tech Support reviled these are not to be touched by “human” hands – only Holley can use these ports.

This is a significant downgrade of a much advertised feature set. Modern ECMs all use CAN Bus styled PID s to query and get ECM status data. Besides the standard sensor data like RPM, Temps, pressures, and such we are also after the calculated values like load, fuel economy, power and more. All of which we thought we could access over CAN bus just like other ECMs.

Another goal was to integrate the Holley HP data with our wireless CAN Bus gateways to get the info wirelessly up to an iPad or similar device like we now do with other EMCs and vessel data. Many custom car builders are now looking at using iPads in the dash for instrumentation and this could have been a good fit.

So, the question to the Holley folks is why is the CAN bus interface forbidden and is there any hope for developers to utilize this data in more interesting and useful ways. At least a simple spec on how to enable the sensor output like on other CAN ECMs.

For anyone who is interested – here are the connectors and pins for the Holley ECMs available from www.mouser.com at about $25/set

I have used them to make up two custom harness and they are great for spares.
