Does anyone make a drop spindle for a '78 Caprice... or any body style that would interchange?

It have heard it would be a better choice to replace the spindles with drop spindles rather than modify or get shorter springs.

thanks,
Brandon

Any spindle from '73-'77 A/G body like Chevelle, Cutlass, Grand Prix, etc... and any '77-'96 Full size GM like Impala, Caprice early Bonneville, Catalina, Impala SS will work. Many guys just buy junk yard stuff from wrecked '94-'96 Impala SS, they give it a nice drop and bolt in for cheap.

How much do you want to drop it? I have just ordered a set of edelbrock springs for my 1980 caprice, drops it 1.2" on the front and 1" on the rear. Figured it would not be a problem if the bushes are all loossend off and re tightend with it sitting at the new ride hights. I guess now i'm gonna lern this was a bad idea or something?

I'm not sure if it's a bad idea, I've just been told that if I was going to do one, it would be better to do the spindles because then you can use the full length springs which would give a better ride, but that is just one opinion. I was trying to see what everyone else though.

You won't have a ride problem with 1.2" drop springs unless the spring rates are super high and that could cause a ride problem on any length spring. You are not going to bottoming out over minor bumps or anything.

Do the 94-96 spindles bolt straight in with no mods or changing the geometry?
I've been searching for months to find a set of 2" drop spindles for my 79 caprice estate but can't seem to find anything at all

What may hang you up is the your car has the big bolt pattern (5 x 5") wheels and uses 12" rotors with the caliper mounting points set further out from the actual 'spindle' where the wheel bearings/seals live and most big 1977-90 GM cars used the traditional 5 x 4.75" pattern so be careful there. OTOH: the ball joints; upper and lower as well as the tie rod ends are the same so that's one variable eliminated. The one exception would be certain armored Cadillacs and 1995-96 Caprice police cars since they use the bigger 1971-76 lower ball joint.
