Sometimes the outer ring on the Harmonic balance (front pulley) slips and rotates making it so you can’t set the timing with a timing light.

The more common problem on these trucks is for the distributor module to fail. Many stores like NAPA in my area will test the module for free if you bring it in.

Make sure when you install or reinstall the distributor module that you use heat sink compound/grease under it. The compound helps dissipate heat from the module. Without it, the module will fail.

PS: This post is up in the car section and this happens often because the area is NOT clearly marked.

There is a truck section farther down on the form index. The truck section gets much more traffic and you will get more help when you post in the truck section. A moderator may move this if they find it.

I see it’s your first post. Welcome to the message board.

For those of you that are wondering why you are not getting replies to your thread:

Did you give the model, year, engine, fuel system type, and transmission information?

If your vehicle has been altered from stock, let us know about that too.

Could be a bad ignition module.
