A one-year-only option catering to the Clark Griswold set. Came from the factory with anti-sway bars, a beefed up suspension, circular gauge cluster, upgraded mirrors and Turbine 1 wheels. 350 4V or a 454 were the engine options with the SS. The car had to be a two-seat model. Buckets and a console were not available on the order sheet, but I've heard of one COPO with them. (It doesn't make sense because I think the seats would swivel into the door pillars. Later models had a non-swivel seat for four doors.) The roof rack, air deflector and rear swing out quarter windows were all options. SS emblems came on the steering wheel and front door panels like her two-door sister.
She was born in September '73. After an initial force shipment to some dealers, who knows how many were more were made. Damn few I suppose. I'm guessing hot rod wagons were a niche market.

I am sure that swivel buckets would hit the door frames in a wagon or 4-door. I know I can't shut my door with the turned 90 degrees. They might be able to turn part of the way toward the door though. And believe me, any little bit helps with getting into those things.
