I see these for sale a lot. I was wondering if they have any potential with performance. Also, are these cars held back by a lot of emissions equipment?

Lots of potential with these cars. Actually, it seems like most of them are snapped up and turned into drag racers. My 79 is a factory 305 V8 with factory M22 4-speed, which has 3:73 gears and is pretty quick compared to a stock 305 automatic. I typicallly do not race the car but have noticed it does have a lot of pick up off the line for a 70's car. Here are a few pics of my car:

As you can see, my car has a factory sunroof which was only installed in 842 cars and the combination of the sunroof and factory 4-speed is extremely rare, I know of only 3 others at the present time. My 79 also has factory buckets and console. It is possible to find some rather unusual variations of these cars with some determined effort.

Also, check out www.maliburacing.com toget an idea of what is out there for these cars.

exnyman- That is one fine example of a fine car!

Yes, but only with a streak of luck. There are still plenty "little old lady drove on Sunday to church" examples of these G-bodies out there.
Around here finding any type of A/G body in a junkyard is not easy. There are a few local circletrack racetracks that use these in some class of theirs. Those roundy-round racers are known to be hard on cars.

If you ever have the time or space I personally would like to see any other pics of your car that you may have. The combo of options on that car certainly is rare.
Do you know if sunroofs were only available on landau roofs or were they also available on the sport coupe roofs too?

The sunroof was available on any 2-door coupe. I have seen one 78 that was a standard malibu with no landau roof and little in the way of options. It was on Ebay about maybe a year and a half ago. I will post more pictures of my car here shortly.

Thanks for the pics.
Again, that is a very nice ride!
Any plans for the later model sitting in the garage?
My Malibu led to me buying an El Camino (both 79). I daily drove the Elky for 13 years until rust around almost all of the body mounts caused the frame and body to become seperate pieces.

Thanks. Do You mean the El Camino sitting in the garage? It is an 86 SS Sport Decor model that I bought new. It has only 4000 original miles on it and hasn't ever seen rain or snow. I keep it covered normally but the day I shot the pictures of the Malibu, I had it uncovered. It was my first brand new car and I just could never bring myself to drive it much for fear of it being damaged. I drive it less than 500 miles per year. Here is a recent photo:

I also have a nice 80 Monte Carlo Landau coupe. My Fahter had one also but like your Elky, his was driven daily and the frame rusted out.
