I want to share with you the frame off restoration I'm in process to make with my car. I'm very happy to see what the other guy do to their car, and it is helpful. Now I offer you the same thing, hope you'll enjoy.

First, I am the owner of the car since 1995. I bought like you see above. I remove the engine to fix leaking problem with oil, and exhaust valve. With only 40$ and a free gasket kit, I can't do too much on the car the first two or three years.

I clean it as much that I can, and I make the interior six years later. Make some touch up on paint. My friend want the car for is wedding in 2005 but the engine blowby so much, I was afraid to loose the bride in it, so I rebuilt the engine in 2005 just one month before is wedding Kanter make a mistake and don't send me the good ring. I receive the good one 12 days before THE day. My wife help me a lot to be on "time". She installed the valve and clean the part, and me assembled it.

After the wedding I make a good inspection because some time I heard some body noise, that I can't do nothing to fix it. I found under few (big) patch on steel, big hole on the frame. The patch was spread with tar to make dirt road to glue on it. The frame is too rusty to be repaired. I park the car in 2006, and the process begin to replace the frame. I found one in British Columbia, 3000 miles from here, and another 3000 to comeback. My wife was willing to pickup the frame in Kelowna BC Canada with me and our 3 daugthers. I bring back the frame in the last summer. The seller send me picture of the frame before, but I made a mistake for the year. It is a 49-52 frame. So the rear end and some bracket won't fit. I have to correct that before painting it. If I could find another one I would take it but, here there is nothing good to use without rust. So I'll post picture for the frame modification soon. It's OK for tonight. Hope you'll follow the post and be kind with the orthograh. thank.

When I park the car, the engine was running rough a bit. Take the temp of the exhaust manifold at each exit after checking ignition, timing, vaccuum leak etc... and the #6 cyl. was colder than the other one. And with the ignition on OFF position the rythm of the starter was unequal. I knew now I have a leak of compression in that cyl. I made a leak test and it was the exhaust valve the problem. Recently (last week) I remove the head and fix the valve problem.

In sept 2006, I began to dissamble the car and taking note in book and place all small parts in closed bag.

Yes, I think if we were 3, we could lift it. The body is completely empty. If you keep the doors and all the glass, 4 guys it's not enought I think. It's crazy how it's light when empty, about 600lbs (not sure...)

I will try to post tonight, hope it will work.

I remove the rear axle, and place new plastic between the leaf of the spring. I open the diff. for check up and fix if necessary. The diff is in very good condition, but the axle goes in and out before dissambling.

The block inside the diff. in the middle was use to lock the axle, mine had a lot of wear and the axle could move in and out. When I restore the diff, I turn 90 degrees the block and ajust it without mouvement for the axle.

I don't think so, because the weight is minimum and when I reach 5 pic. the system tell me "it's enough". Its only to preview the overall post with picture the problem. I take the spring picture and post it directly without preview. The system tell me the post as "failed" but the picture of the spring come up on the post

I'll post without picture appearing on the post. You'll have to click to see... sorry.

The diff will be painted black this week end. After I'll install the brake system and put it in storage waiting for the frame. Last week I began to work on the steer axle.

This is where I am with the steer axle. All the part to restore it has been ordered and received. I want, for tomorrow, completly dissamble the steer axle and send to sandblast the cross member. For the 4 A arm, and the knuckles I'll clean it a bit and send it later. All parts are place in plastic box and tag "left or right". It's easy to forget with working on it once a week only. And for the body, we remove all the undercoating. We try with thinner and other liquid like that. The best thing we found to clean the underbody is to scrap it with a heat gun. Like you see in the picture, my friend hold the heat gun in is hand, and scrap, scrap and scrap... I'll post picture of the underbody completly clean. We remove the excess of tar with thinner and towel.

For the body itself, it need some attention near the body mount and one floor pan, passenger side. Also, both side at the rear under the tail light, need attention too. The process to fix the body begin soon. I put my energy on the diff, steer axle, and frame, after it will be the body. Now the diff is almost done, the steer axle is in good way, and the frame after. My friend will work a lot more than me on the body itself, he can weld and paint better then me so...

what is the purpose of the part above the water pump that the heater hoses are connected to?

Ahhhh - yet another difference between Pontiac and Chevy. On a Chevy the oil cooler is spliced into the lower radiator hose. Thank you for explaining.
