What V-8s and transmissions were available in the 80 Caprice? Were these all 305s and 2004R?

California:

Thanks.....I thought I had found a good deal. Was hoping the car I found with a fresh rebuilt motor and transmission was a 350 with an OD trans so I could swap it into my wifes 66 Impala. But after seeing the HP rating of the 305, I would be swapping in less HP. Guess I'll pass on it.

First year of the 700R4 was 1983 for passenger cars (1982 Corvettes only). Not sure about the 200R4 admittedly.

Supposedly; the 1986+ 700R4's are stronger.

yeah the 700r4 had lots of problems the first several years. But these days they rebuild all 700r4s to eliminate the past problems. Most of the rebuild kits come with the instructions and parts to fix most of the early problems and hard parts are available to update the weaker early versions. I found another one that I'm checking out today. It's an 83 wagon.
