I think I'll leave the skirts off for awhile. I like it!! It looks like a totally different car.

Nice car. I run mine without the skirts too. Looks too much like a lowrider with the skirts.

OK, now seeing how I like it without the chrome tips. I never wanted the hot rod look. The car had dice on the door locks, valve stems and on the package shelf, and the lowering blocks had just been removed when I got it. I wish it had the handle on the trunk

Now it looks like something Marcus Welby would drive. Or Jim Anderson. They were the same guy...

Hi Dave, I like the way it looks with and without the skirts.
The thing I don't like about the factory Chevy skirts is they look like an afterthought. They just don't compliment the lines.

I have found a similar skirt from an Old's that has a flared lower edge and will try them when I get to restore my honey dripper Bel Air.

Cheers Kiwi

I submitted pictures of my 1953 Sport Coupe here back in December of 2014 but since then it has undergone significant changes so I thought I it was time for new pictures. Since 2014 I have replaced the tired old TPI 350 with a 310 HP Blueprint 350 crate engine, rebuilt the 700-R4 transmission, added Posies rear springs, added a Chassis Engineering Mustang II front suspension, lowered the car about three inches all around, replaced the painted grille with a new chrome one, replaced the 54 hood emblem and headlight rims with a correct 53 hood emblem and headlight rims, changed the 54 Chevy tail light housings to 53, converted the parking lights from clear to amber, converted the back-up lights to amber directional signals, replaced the original sealed beam headlights with modern H4 bulbs and amber halo lights, added chrome rally wheels with replica 53 Chevy hubcaps, added 4-wheel disc brakes with a Corvette master cylinder, added cruise control, added vintage Corvette seat belts, added Vintage Air A/C, added Dolphin gauges including an electronic speedometer, added front accessory corner bumper guards, added a continental kit from NCA, replaced the bucket seats with a stock bench seat and replaced all the interior including re-chroming the chrome headliner top bows. Unfortunately, I had to remove the 59 Impala steering wheel because the bench seat was closer than the buckets but I replaced it with a 59 Corvette steering wheel.

It has taken me about five years but I think I have the car like I want it now. The only thing left now is replacing the front shocks with Viking adjustable shocks and possibly a new paint job in the next couple of years.

I made them myself from 76-86 Jeep CJ lenses because nobody makes them for 53 Chevys. Here is the thread. Wasn't that hard to do.
