Hi Nomaders, just looking for info on installing power steering on my 55 Nomad. My small block has a long water pump with stock alternator setup on right side. Late heads with access holes. Thats it, one fan belt. I have Corvette 2 1/2" ramhorns with the bracket built in for mounting whatever. Question....is there a kit with all the brackets, pulleys, pump etc. that I can buy. I know I have to do the column, what else? Seems most kits are for short pumps.

Transmission? Floor or column shift? # of pulleys on crank balancer?

Where are you?

When you state "right side", do you mean passenger side on lefthand drive?

Column shift transmission. All positions on cars stem from the drivers seat. Right and left, like right and left side steering wheels, not driver or passenger sides. Just saying. I would need all double groove pulleys. I live near Chicago.

I would just get OEM bottom pulley to drive the PS pump. Pump sits in bracket that hangs off of the water pump(long style).
Don't worry about the exhaust manifold, unless that tab is in the way of pump.

OK, thanks for the info.

I know the correct left/right, just not sure you did. Mainly because you said "stock alternator is on right". On tri-fives, stock location for generator is left side.

Auto on column is fine, but manual trans on column is not, unless you do expensive firewall mods. Any trans on floor is fine with aftermarket PS gear.

You're aware column needs to be shorter, that's good.

Is the engine still front mount, or converted to side mount? Pump brackets available for both.

# of crank grooves?

Thanks for info. I first built my Nomad in 1983. I used the Hurst saddle front mount. I used the factory long water pump and brackets for the alternator right side mounting position. I have aluminum heads with accessory holes. Need two groove pulleys for steering and alternator. Running TH 400 trans with column shift. I will need a new column, steering box , power pump and brackets.
