The dreaded "burping". Drive, or at least start/run, the car frequently, and keep a large drain pan under the trans. There does't really seem to be too much you can do, considering the wear and tear on these old transmissions. Even "rebuilding" them has limited success; there's always hard parts wear that does't get addressed by most rebuilders. I can remember my 56 210 Del Ray doing this in 1970, before I finally bought my first new car at 17 years old, and paid cash. Sold the 56 to a friend, and never had a leak again. Course by then, I'd already converted it over to a 3 speed manual on the floor. These transmissions are almost 60 years old now, and due to the shift quadrant change of 58, you're really limited on what "new" parts are left for the 55-57's. Good luck, you will probably need it. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
