First some background, my work in progress 55 has an AAW Classic Upgrade kit which at this point is installed from the dash back, nothing firewall forward yet. I'm using the AAW headlight and ignition switches. The battery is mounted in the trunk and am using Technostalgia LED taillight assemblies which have a "triple flash" brake light function, meaning whenever brakes are applied, they flash 3 times fast and then remain on. Just did a cautious initial battery connection......... no smoke! However with ignition switch and headlight switch off, the taillights and both turn signal indicator dash lights are on. When the headlight switch is pulled out to first position the license plate lights come on as they should but the brake lights do the triple flash. The mechanical brake light switch apparently isn't doing anything. The dash lights up and dims as it should. Although in the end it won't be used, there is a 3rd brake light lead and it also is live. Where could the power be "getting into" these circuits? I'll continue to study wiring diagrams, but any input is most welcome. Thank you!

An additional fact regarding this electrical issue is that whether the brake light switch is fully extended or depressed, the 3rd brake light lead is live.

Disconnect the tail lights from the rear body harness and see if you have voltage on the brown wire WITHOUT it being attached to the tail lamps. I suspect no, because the tail light and tag light are the same circuit and the tag light does not come on until you pull the headlight switch knob out by your own admission. I hate to condemn the tail lights, but LEDS will light up with milli-volts of power directed to them. My guess is that something is either wrong in the logic, or the connections are not correct.

Donny, Thank you for chiming in. I was anxious for some input on this problem so I called AAW and spoke to Ray. He was suspicious of something in the steering column, an aftermarket tilt unit of unknown make that I installed 30 years ago. Ray asked me to disconnect the connector at the column and on the harness side, using the Brown feed, jumper the various circuits and all worked, and nothing came on when just connecting the battery.I have purchased a new IDIDIT column.
