Hello all, new user name because I forgot my old credentials ha.
Anywho 94 Chevy 1500 5.7 TBI. I had loss of power towing the camper home from camp and noticed the intake was leaking. I went ahead and replaced it . I somehow messed up my dist marks and when I set TDC and thought I was correct I was in fact 180 off and this caused a huge backfire that actually blew the muffler apart like a tin can .
After messing with it for a few days and triple checking my wires and TDC on compression stroke I had fuel spark but no start. I think ohm’d out all my sensors at sensor side and wiring side all was working . I found the battery was just not strong enough but weirdly would crank the engine . I replaced the battery and now I have fuel spark and ignition. However it cranks like it wants to start now but won’t. I’m worried I may have damaged something when it backfired. I horoscopes all the cylinder and valves and they seem to be okay.
Now with that being said I did notice last night that I do have a coolant leak coming from around an intake stud. Would this cause it not to start? The plugs looked black but not wet , I had cylinder # 7 was wet but that’s opposite side of where the leak is. Needless to say I know I need to redo the gaskets and I also ordered new bolts and studs this time. I’m baffled as to why it won’t start and hence I’m on here because I’m worried I may have caused bigger issues.
Side note: the back coolant passages had a port block. Small metal thingy that sits in the passage to restrict flow. I believe this is to ensure the heads don’t get hot spots in them . I did not put those back in. Should I have put those back in ? They come with the gasket set and if y’all think it makes a difference I will toss them back in since I get to perform this task all over again.
Any help or advice would be great.

In response to Clee
your timing is probly off. #7 wet with coolant? did you use thread sealer on the intake bolts?
