502 in 68 Camaro. Because of exhaust port size on Brodix heads I needed 2 1/8” headers, so my choices were limited. This is how Hooker Super Comps 2285 are routed. My question is: Will the heat from the #5 header tube ruin the P/S fluid? Has anybody dealt with this or know the technical answer to this?
Is there a superior fluid that maybe has a higher temperature capacity & works in the GM Saginaw 800 box? Thanks much.

That is definitely going to raise the temperature of the fluid well beyond the system's design limits. The seals are going to take the hit here because of the overheated fluid.
Consider adding an external power steering cooler or a heat shield around the power steering line.
People fear change because it threatens what they know, or what they claim to know. |

uh, looks like you had to ding the header tube. i would ding it a bit more and wrap only that section of the tube with header wrap. i would also get the heat sleeve for that section of the pump line.

There is a thread on youtube....engine masters. I just looked, and couldn't find it. Dents in headers don't mean a dern thing....AND, at times help power. They pounded the snot out them and test them, then did it again. Power went up, until they were pretty much siamesed.
Don't worry about denting your headers.
