1973 Chevy Nova Auto Trans Column Shift Tube Lever.
Unable to attach the steering upper rod to the column shift lever tube bracket on the column. The bracket is positioned all the way upward towards the bottom of the firewall. I believe, it is located in the lowest range (L) in that position.
Must I rotate that lever down towards the ground to get it into the Park Position? This is my question.

Thanks for that reply. One more question, if the steering upper rod is not attached will that cause my back-up lights not to work. I lost the rod and now I have no back-up lights. If that is not my problem, then what is my alternative to getting them up and working again?

i dont understand steering upper rod. reverse lights should work from switch on the steering column i think. check bulbs and fuse first.

The steering Upper Rod is the linkage rod that attaches to the steering shift tube Lever.
I have been informed that this rod must be attached in order for the back-up light switch to operate, which is located inside the Steering Shift Tube.
If you turn the ignition switch to the start position, you can rotate that lever by hand, but it must be returned to the park position, in order,to have the ignition switch return to the fully closed position.
