I am on the tail end of assembling the power steering kit from Ground Up which came with no instructions. Never having worked with ps before I bought power steering fluid & after I got the system all primed & leaks fixed, found out that it is supposed to have type A trans fluid. Are there any knowledgeable out there that could advise me? Sure wish I would have done a little looking before I jumped. Thanks

Type A Transmission Fluid was introduced in the mid 1950’s for use in all automatic transmissions for General Motors vehicle brands. Type A was used through the mid 1960’s. Its obsolete.

GM claims all formulations of Dexron ATF are backward compatible.

Sacrilegious I know but the Type F (Ford) trans fluid is as close to the original type A fluid as you can find. That is what I use in my old cast iron powerglide in my 58 Impala.
