My old '95 Jimmy is still running. Well, it needs a new fuel pump. Helping my friend out, I discovered a few unique items. First, disconnect the forward tank vent valve hose! Otherwise it breaks and a new one is needed. Second, the lines are hard plumbed! 17mm and 16mm (5/8") wrenches are needed. Third, the lock ring is tack welded to the tank. Don't try to remove it! The pump is locked in with a smaller inner ring. Gently tap it with a small hammer and punch. A new pump has two locking tabs for orientation. The tabs lock on the tank ring. The tank for 29 years old was surprisingly clean inside. Once a new vent valve is installed, it should start right up.

Might want to use a non sparking punch here.

Brass punch for sure! The tank was completely drained. Not taking chances with an empty tank either. Oh, both vent valves nipples broke off. Two new valves are on order to finish the installation.

The Jimmy gas tank is back on. Both vent valves were replaced. Attached is a picture of the forward vent valve. The forward vent valve should be disconnected before removing anything. Both vent valves should be installed when the tank is off. The rear connection goes on easily. Only the forward one has a clamp on it. The Jimmy started right up.
