Just purchased a beautiful 1996 Impala SS to go with my 61 Impala. First of this body style, I love the looks, plenty of power, along with an interior that feels like a leather couch, a/c and a radio that works, Lol. Currently it has k&n intake and a few small goodies. Just going to install Jegs cat back exhaust, iridium plugs, Taylor spiral pro wires and that's it. I have 1 bent wheel, so I just purchased a replacement. That is it, I like the stock looking sleeper. What do you guys think of your SSs, and what Mods have you made and been happy with. Any complaints on the SSs. Thanks

Most of the people here don't know know much about the '94-6 B-Bodies. Go here:
http://www.impalassforum.com/
Before asking any questions on that forum, download Qalo's Handbook which they have prepared and you will find a lot of information you will want and need. After that , do a little reading n the forum sections that interest you. You will find this very helpful and you will gain knowledge that will save you money. Almost nothing you know about your '61 applies to the LT-1 Gen 2 engine so it helps to get as much infoas you can. Also, purchase either a set of GM Service Manuals, or at minimum a Haynes Manual before you start working on the car. These are great cars, very durable, and have good performance potential. Good luck.

Thanks for the info bud, I actually know quite a bit on these LT1s, I have other cars with the motor, and my twin brother was big into Caprices a few years back with this same motor. Will definitely look into the impala forum though

I love the caprice and impala of that era. I went a little bigger with the Fleetwood and the Devilles, but the bigger, faster, and more luxurious the better

I just realized that the Chevy Talk site includes the 94-96 SS Impala. And the suggestion to download the Qalo's SS Handbook was great. I have a 96 grey-green SS that I bought new in Texas and is still like new...never seen any bad weather & always garaged. Now has 39,000 miles.
Only problem I have had was the windshield washer reservoir started to leak. I bought a new one from the local Chevy dealer and installed it myself. No problem except now the dash lite saying low fluid stays on. Any suggestions on fixing it other than cleaning the contact where it connects to the reservoir?
I am considering selling it...I need to simplify my life a bit!

Did the new tank have a level sensor in it?
If it did not then check the plug and the wires leading to it.
Also check to be sure the sender is properly installed

The new tank did not have anything in it. I will check the plug & wire.
Thanks for the help.

I replaced the fluid level sensor, trying the float both ways (up and down) and the wire that plugs into the sensor appears OK. Still the "low fluid" light on the dash stays on. Out of ideas! Anyone help would be appreciated.

Ok so likely the output wire is shorted to ground somewhere between the tank and the IPC. If the wire shows ground that means it is shorted.
That will make the light stay on

Here's a legitimate example of an Impala SS 4-door.
People fear change because it threatens what they know, or what they claim to know. |
