Hey all! New to this forum.. I’ve got an 87’ caprice LS Brougham with the 305 v8, and I’m trying to fix some minor issues that I’ve put off for a long time. Figured this forum would be a great resource!!
The automatic locks no longer work and I can’t figure out why. When you press the driver side button, you hear a quiet “clicking” noise coming from the passenger door, but nothing else. Does this sound like an actuator problem ..?
The other question is the rear defrost randomly stopped working one day.. no light on the button when I twist the knob either. Cruise control went out around the same time as the defrost. Maybe a fuse issue? I haven’t located the fuse box yet, literally just wanted to throw some feelers out on here first! Thanks in advance! ????

Your door locks from that era are a pretty simple circuit. My suggestion is to remove the door panel, unplug the actuator, then test for voltage in both lock and unlock.
My guess is that you will get 12V just fine. Replace the actuators.
If you do not get 12V, then go backwards until you find the break in the circuit.
People fear change because it threatens what they know, or what they claim to know. |

Thank you for the response, Tony!! So I sorted out the defrost... To anyone else that is looking at this thread for info on a similar issue, Read This!
The rear defrost, automatic locks, and power seats are all connected to the fuse panel via an orange connector, with TWO Orange w. Black stripe wires coming out of it. In my case, the connector got bumped by my foot a bunch cuz its so close to the brake pedal, and got damaged. I found a box chevy in a junk yard and managed to pull the same connector... Wired and plugged it in, and boom! Back in business. I had hoped cruise control was on the same circuit...But afraid not. That'll be my next project. I hope this helps somebody.
