I am in the process of putting a remanufactured small block Chevy 350 into a '79 Firebird.

The problem I have is I can't find a dipstick that will fit the block I have. It has a passenger side dipstick, but the two chrome ones I've tried are too big to fit into the block.?? The last one measured 3/8" outside diameter, and was supposed to fit all 350's 1980-1985. What am I missing?
Any help is much appreciated.

PS- the casting number on the block is 1401207. According to that it looks like it is a 1980-85 block, but I can't narrow it down more.

I should also add that I can't find a timing tab to even come close to fitting. Any ideas ? Could this be a marine block or some other oddball block? any way to tell?
Any guidance much appreciated.
