Looking for thoughts on these replacement trunk lids. There looks to be a seam down the center. Should I be concerned?
Thanks,
Tom

I didn't notice that till you mentioned it. It's fairly new. If no one jumps in, I would check with all the vendors on it.

I'm not a 65 expert but to me that's not a seam. It looks like an intentional subtle crease. I had to look for good images of original looking cars for comparison. I found a couple on a site which typically has a lot of photos on very nice cars to me it looks the same/similar.
Edit: One other point which would indicate it's not a seam is the inner reinforcing panel would need to be stamped in essentially the same size die and there's nothing on that inner reinforcing panel which looks like a seam.

You are correct. It is not a seam. It is formed/pressed that way. Given the fact that good deck lids are almost impossible to find, I think I will give it a shot. I do have a pair of original lids. 1 has a perfect inner structure with a porous skin. The other looks to have a pretty good skin with a terrible inner structure. I may attempt to merge the 2 down the road.
Thanks for the input.

Looking an original sales brochure (zoom in)
https://dgv3.xr793.us/wp-content/uploads/201 7/08/1...
There is definitely a factory ridge on the rear more vertical face.
As far as the top surface? Its been 50 years since I saw an original unrepainted '65 2 dr car.
A few or 5 repaints using long air file as a sanding method to remove the old paint, could subdue any factory crease.
Anymore, so many cars have been repainted, its hard to find original details left, except among the few true survivors wearing original paint.
Corvettes are the worse for line altering/softening due to their fiberglass bodies. Its really hard to find a C2 with absolutely original paint and fiberglass details, they had well defined (not rounded), break lines and windsplit lines, etc.

WOW!
You're correct. I just looked at my deck lids and there is a very subtle line in the metal. It's a bit hard to see through the old paint and surface rust.
Thank you!

Where are you located? There's a wrecking yard in Kennewick Washington that still has several '65's that are being parted out. If you're close enough, they'd be worth checking out.
