You should comment whether or not you would like it to respond exactly like stock, the one finger no effort close to 4 turns lock-to-lock, or you want something different.

I have a 1968 so I cannot be certain of the PN for your car but I had some experience changing mine from stock to something a little closer to modern.

You have options so I cannot provide a part number, but I can tell you that you will not be able to re-use the pitman arm attached to your manual steering box. The power steering box uses a longer arm with a different sized hole on the big end.

I just went from a non-functional power steering box to a manual box and I love it. All the roads are straight in my neck of the woods though.

Hello,
I did this 2 years ago and ordered a Lares 973 from Rockauto. It's a reman and came with a new rag joint.
It has a different steering ratio than stock but you can get a stock one there too. Beware that they won't accept your manual gear as a core. The core return has to be the same as the purchase. The factory part number is 5696112. You will also need a power steering pitman arm, double crankshaft pulley, Power steering pump, hoses and belt. And upper and lower mount brackets. Big block and small block brackets are different.

Is the steering arm which attaches to the spindle the same? I don't know but it seems like something which would reasonable change.

Hello
Would it be possible to get the part number of the pulley you used and where did you get it. Also the mounting bolts for brackets.
Thank Mike

Hello 3964spd

The steering linkage is the same save for the items listed earlier. The part number for the pulley is 3751232. It's a double groove pulley for SBC engine. It may be the same for the L6 and big block but I'm not positive. Keep in mind if you plan to install AC at a later date you will need the three groove pulley so plan ahead. The fasteners are standard 5/16x18 automotive hardware and the lower pump bracket is incorporated into the driver side motor mount on the small block only. Almost forgot to remind you to replace the lower steering column bearing. Yours will likely fall apart when you dissassemble. It's a little bearing cage with ball bearings in it.

Hello it's been quite some time you answered my post a while back. I have all the parts you suggested. Just wondering now how to align my steering correctly with the new Pitman Ironman new gearbox for my power steering. Thank you Mike

Not sure if this the answer you want, but, when i went to fast ratio box, I put the new steering box in a vise and turned it lock to lock few times, marking the extreme most turning points (and precisely counting turns, 3 1/4), then found the middle (1 5/8 turn) and marked it.

I messed up getting the rag joint on exactly as it should have been for the steering column to line up right, so i had to pull the steering wheel and reset it, as I wasn't going to take the PS box back off.
