I have a 1965 Impala SS with a 396 from a 1970 Chevelle (i believe, kinda frankensteined engine/heads). Had some antifreeze pooling up on my intake, so I decided to change the intake manifold gasket. Took off the intake and was prying off the old gasket and I found a dime that was stuck in between the manifold and the head. That is something you don't see often. I took off the intake manifold and flipped it over and it said, "Made In China." I decided to replace it and purchased a Edelbrock air gap 2. My question to you all is, I set a mark on the distributor, the firewall, and the old intake to keep the timing the same. Will it be possible to use the new manifold and try to eyeball a similar mark where the distributor is installed, or will I have to find TDC and time the engine?

an eyeball job should get you close enough to start & adjust with a timing light

What did you mark and take note of? If you marked the base of the distributor and the intake next to it eyeballing it will be close enough to get it started and then use a timing light.

The important thing is, did you notice and keep track of where the distributor rotor was pointing before you pulled it out, and allowing for the gear twist, so you can put it back where is was?
