I have a 62 impala. With a 383 motor and a th350 transmission. My question is. What kind of modification will need to be done to swap out to a 4L80E. Thanks.

Are you sure you want the 4L60E or do you mean the 4L60? The E version is for computer controlled.
And are you referring to internal transmission changes or external changes (drive shaft length etc)

Assuming a 4L60 will even fit in the tunnel, at the very least you'd need to relocate/modify the trans cross member, shorten the driveshaft and install a new front yoke on it.

You might consider a 700R4, or even a 200R4, both are more compact than the 4L60. 700R4's are longer than 200R4's, and 200R4's are the same overall length as a short tail shaft TH350.

The 700 and 200 would need to be built to live behind a strong 383, as might the 4L60.

If I recall correctly my memory is excellent. My ability to access it is not.

Well, ok - but the same challenges of installing a 4L60 apply to the 4L80.

700r4 will fit, new trans mount shorten front drive shaft, 4L60e needs lots for floor work and if you want to use oem speedometer will need $800.00 tail houseing with speedo drive and signal gen. Then you have lots of "fun" trying to get drive ;;ine to not vibrate. Now have 200r4 in and having a time with vibration. Now 4l80E would be great but too long, I think one peice drive shaft would be nice, lot of work, tried that also would have to lower front of engine to get engine angle of 2.5* then I think it would work Laurie
