Thanks, 56 Kruiser!!
Guess what I did today? I took two full days off from my "part time job" so I could get some things done.

Day one had me mowing 5 acres, splitting and stacking some firewood trying to eat into the BIG pile that Harvey left me last summer.
Installed tow mirrors on my Escalade so I can pull my 36' camp trailer. Changed the oil,and detailed it.
Then I built a patio table for my daughter so they could gather around her pool.
Then, I cleaned my shop.

I got my Clecos in on Friday morning, so.....I went back out to the shop and hung the quarter panel!! I hooked up my new Lincoln wire welder, and turned on the gas.................no argon!!
Drove to Corpus to get some argon, and back again and started welding the panel in. Really.

Posted are the almost final results. I still have to squirt some wire into a couple of holes, and weld out the bottom.

I have NEVER even mixed up any bondo. I know NOTHING about how to put it on or work it,,, but I can't say that next time I post. I just hope I can do as good a job of it as Roger did on his .

Griff

I've got a big problem. It seems that the fender that I am working on has been replaced some time in the past. When I started welding the top edge everything went sideways. Bubbles, porosity, BIG holes in the metal, and non fusion.
New welding machine. Argon gas. I am certified in MIG, and TIG. As a matter of fact in the past I was a mig instructor for Brown & Root. Something was terribly wrong.

It would seem that the body man prior to me had brazed the fender into the car. The parent metal was so thin, that when I tried to silver solder it in, more big holes.

I am really frustrated now. I cannot find any upper quarter sheet metal, and it has a couple of compound curves in it, so is going to be extremely difficult to fabricate.

Anybody got some ideas?

I found a guy in Oklahoma that deals with the 60 Chevy exclusively. I have used him in the past but not for sheet metal.

He was willing to chop me a piece that I needed.
Finally got to do a little work on the 6T today, so cut out the old brazed piece. I'm in the process of fitting that now.

I also have put a little bit of bondo on a couple of places where I formed new sheet metal.

It feels good to be making a little bit of progress again.

How’s the panel replacement coming along? I’m glad I didn’t have to face something like that with my limited abilities. Keep it up and keep us updated. Lamar

Lamar,
Thanks for asking. My father in law passed three weeks ago, and I have been running the highways dealing with addiction problems with my granddaughter, and her mother who is also an addict. Both are in recovery houses now.
I basically haven't done anything but buy a new sander.
Oh, I almost forgot. I put a back door in my shop. With my pickup. Long story. pics attached.

No, my shop isn't quite that messy. This picture was taken for insurance papers AFTER I ran into my toolbox, and pushed it, and my compressor out the back of my shop. No, there wasn't a door there prior to driving my pickup through it. I created it WITH my pickup.

Just more stuff to deal with.

Hey Griff I’m so sorry to hear that you have been having more than your share of trouble ☹️. Drugs have devastated so many families including mine but the family member is doing fine now and I pray for this healing to continue. I will continue to remember you and your family in my prayers 🙏🏻. Hopefully it want be too long before you can get back on the 60t. (and get your new door 🚪 installed 😊) Lamar
