Hi folks,

It seems like a remember a couple of people asking about the ordering of headliner bows. Since I'm in the middle of refinishing them, I thought that a picture of their placement and dimensions might be helpful for someone in the future.

Just wondering. I removed the bows from my '51 coupe and discovered that the bows were color coded on the ends. I wonder if the ones on your '54 are.

There were 7 bows in my Business Coupe. Front to rear, they were:
SILVER
BLACK
PAPER COVERED
WHITE
YELLOW
RED
BLUE

1951 Fleetline Preservation
'51 Fleetline DeLuxe 2 DOOR SEDAN (Fathom Green)
'51 Styleline Special BUSINESS COUPE (Shadow Gray)
'53 6500 Dump Bed (Oxidized Red)
'50 Styleline DeLuxe 4 DOOR SEDAN (Mist Green)

I think you're right! I can definitely see one with blue, and another with green. The rest are too rusty to see for sure.

That's really interesting. #3 in mine is paper covered; I may color code the tips just to say I did!

Interesting! This is a quick sketch I did of mine when I was taking it down. I still have the original folded up and stored although it is getting very fragile.

WOW...My 51/52 hardtop only has three bows for the the headliner(along with 3 stainless bows that trim things up).Just labeled them front, center, and rear. Someday when I'm rich, and famous I'll get the HL done

Late yr model (Dec. 51 BelAir/ 52 trim), with a basically stock 67 Camaro SS350/295hp Turbo Fire Edelbrock 1405, Saginaw 4spd/355 geared 55/6 Chevy rear.2,1st place, and 1 top five award trophies so far

RAM51, I took your picture and combined it with what I could still see through the rust on the bows and applied a coding strategy. I've no way of being certain that these match the original, but it was a lot of fun! Next task is to wrap the small wire with paper.

I think that is right. Mine were still vaugely visable. I wish there was something in print from GM that verified this. Let me check my manuals.

UPDATE: I can't find anything anywhere at makes any sense.
