Hi All,
I'm going to try and keep this short as I am eating away at my 15 min computer time. I am in the Army and am currently deployed for the next 10 mo. I bought a 73 Vega shell about a month before leaving. I call it a shell because there is nothing there but the body and the steering wheel. A totally blank canvas! No Motor no trans no interior! I am very new to all of this as I have spent most of my off time on the 4x4 side of the house. I would like to build this car to both street and strip specs or at least a happy medium. Low 12's is the goal and as safely as possible. I fully plan on coming through on my end of the bargain I made with my wife before starting yet another project, which was to make it as safe as possible the standard being for me to feel totally comforatable going on a sunday drive with our daughter in the car. That being said I believe there is a happy medium to be found. I have a 350 mated to a turbo 350 sitting in the garage waiting to be rebuilt specifically for the car. I plan on doing sub fram connectors and a cage. All that being said I have no experience on the strip AT ALL but am dying to get into it. Any ad all suggestions, tips and tricks, and advice is more than welcome. I'm not home for another 10 mo. so I've got all the time in the world to formulate a plan. Thanks
Danny

Hi Danny,

First, let me thank you for the job being well done by you while you serve our great country!

I sleep good at night - thanks to you!

Welcome to Chevytalk!

Its nice to see V8 swaps in these great cars.
Sounds like a good plan you have - and I would like to wish you good luck with it.....

I am sure you may have figured out that S10 axles will give you the 5 bolt mounting for the rear axles... those S10 axles fit the 7.5" 10 bolt rear used in some of the H bodies.

Also, the front discs can be redrilled for the 5 lug pattern - so that all four wheels can match.

Good luck with the project - and hurry back home!

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all your replies and support. Are there any good threads/sites that would tell me more about the pros and cons with cages and interior? The Vega has neither so I was looking for some info. Thanks

Danny

I'll echo the earlier sentiments, thanks for serving, we appreciate it. Also good luck with your Vega build. I still love these conversions and have been looking for a nice complete or mostly complete one to pick up. Prices have gone up since I sold my last one with a 383 stroker.

Just a Note the Blue Vega in the Pic is gone. I t was traded for an ElCamino.. The guy who got the Vega proceeded to trade it the next day for a Suburban. It is somewhere in TX..
