I haven't had the lift gate on the car yet but it does have an unmodified drip rail. I did hold it up to the body and can see that it will clear the roof mounted drip rail.
It appears to be a stamped steel product professionally created and not somebody's one off creation.
I sort of like it since it would help the leak problems and that it might be some rare accessory. I'm just not sure it worth repairing the minor rust issues (it seems like I have replaced/repaired 75% of the sheet metal on the car already).
I guess you have not seen the kind of wonders talented sheet metal crafters can make even by hand. Not an accessory from GM, otherwise there would be considerably more that your single example.
Note that it will hold water since there is no apparent drain(s). Are there drains that are not obvious in the photos?
