In theory that sounds like a good deal. It appears those compressors sell for about $1300 new.

Needing a replacement motor seems odd. A motor shouldn't fail unless the compressor had an issue or has been worked hard for years.

The best way to check the compressor is by timing the tank filling which shows how efficiently the pump is working. Is this the manual for the compressor you're looking at?

It says the tank fill time is 9 minutes. If the real fill time is much longer then that could indicate the pump is worn out.
