Hello, my name is Walter I'm a new member. I have a 92 Camaro and I have a 350 in it I have dismantled. Crank looks good and so do main bearings and Pistons. It's a 2-bolt main. I wanna have it dipped and I wanna start going to town on it but this will be my first bottom end rebuild ( I'm excited and scared ). I want to have a little bit of a snotty cam but nothing too big. I saw a cam called a comp XE274-h10 I believe and it seemed to be exactly what I wanted. But I read. That it has high compression of a ratio which is 9:1 or something or that it makes a lot of compression. and I'm not positive but I believe a stock sbc 350 is somewhere in 8:1. So do I need to get flat Pistons to lower the compression for this cam or am I just confusing myself?.. also got some double hump heads I wanna get machined and rebuild. I need advice bad. I'd really appreciate it days was a builder but he passed when I was young so I didn't learn too much.

IIRC, the '92 Camaro 5.7L came factory with 9.7:1 nominal compression ratio with flat topped pistons and smallish combustion chambers.

However, if the engine you're working on building is NOT original to the chassis there is no way of knowing anything of the tech specs by looking at numbers in a book. This is a rather sketchy way of going about it anyway, IMO.

Even comparing the engine code/partial VIN stamped on the block is no guarantee of what's INSIDE the engine either. You might not be the first person to have torn it down.

The most I can offer (keeping in mind that it's not expert advice) is to try to determine what you have through measurements and calculations in order to come up with a baseline and go from there.
