Well, 1st, if that is, indeed, a 1972 model, the front end was replaced ... which might explain the paint issue.

That front end is for a 1971 MC.

Among other variances:
1970 models had circular turn signal lights in the front bumper.
1971 models had rectangular-horizontal turn signal lights in the front bumper (as in the pic you posted)
1972 models had rectangular-vertical turn signal lights (with the MC knight emblem on them) on either end of the grill

I don't know if you checked color charts just for the 1972 model, but if so, you might now check 1971 color charts, if that is a 1971 model.

Although ... is it possible the car was repainted prior to the picture?
