As far as I know the only drip rail at the rear is the one that is part of the lift gate. The lift gate is chrome and I believe the drip rail got painted body color. These gates are notorious for leaking, so maybe someone fabricated something to try to divert the water before it got to the lift gate opening. What was the drip rail screwed to?
