Hello. In my experience, noises need to be diagnosed first. How does the clutch operate? Does it slip under load? Does it vibrate in use?
The Chevrolets of this era use linkage to activate the clutch mechanism.
It is very common to have dry, worn clutch linkage cause noises. The 1961 Chevy uses a large spring on the clutch pedal linkage under the dash. The linkage needs to be closely inspected for evidence of rust build up at each pivot point. This actually maybe the source of the noise. I am not saying that the clutch cover is not the problem, it is just more common to have the linkage be the cause of the noise. Jon
