I looked at the 63 shop manual supplement, and the 61 shop manual. The 63 manual is silent on the convertible top, the power window and the power seat circuits. The 61 has individual wiring diagrams of each of those circuits. If I am reading the diagrams correctly, the top does not have a breaker, the seats and window circuits each do. No ratings are given.

Interestingly, the circuit for the power windows shows a power 'jumper' for the convertible top. The 'jumper' splits off the power wire upstream of the circuit breaker in the window circuit. The breaker is not in the line with the top.

The above is my interpretation of the wiring diagrams. Reading wiring diagrams is not something I call a strength.

My questions:

1. My 63 convertible was originally built w/o power seats, nor power windows. Would it have a circuit breaker in the power top circuit? Rating if exist?

2. A previous owner added power seats to my convertible (he did NOT wire the seats as shown in the 61 manual diagram). It appears that a 12 gauge wire was run from the positive battery cable to energize the system. I disconnected that 'second' 12 gauge wire from the battery (the 'first' 12 gauge wire connects to the horn relay as it should), the only thing that stopped working was the power seats.

GM had a circuit breaker in the power seat circuit, but I can not find its rating. Can you provide the rating for this breaker? (I have not yet determined if my car has a breaker in my existing power seat line. If it does not, I intend, at a minimum, to add one).

3. If I need a circuit breaker in the convertible top power circuit, and if I need to add one to the power seat circuit, would I be screwing up if I only used one circuit breaker to protect both accessory circuits?

4. Do you sell the circuit breaker(s) in question?



You won't find much in service or assembly manuals because the stuff you are asking about is optional and is Fisher Body related, not Chevy Motor Division related. Should be a 30 or 40 amp breaker and should be located up high in the LH kick panel area. The power seat would have utilized the same breaker. You can't work all the appliances at one time, so they just piggy backed off the same breaker.
