I was considering a 2014 Buick Enclave with this engine, but the ticking bothers me immensely, because it would tend to mask any other problems in the top-end. The Buick also vibrated much more than what I would consider normal for an engine with 26k. We looked at a 2016 Acadia that was quiet as a mouse, so I'm wondering if they made improvements over the years?

I have NEVER heard of a direct injection engine with a quiet fuel system. They all tick. It is just the nature of the beast when you have a pump making 2,000+ PSI fuel pressure and have fuel injectors strong enough to open against the pressure. My M56S Infiniti has very noticeable ticking and even what I would describe as a clattering sound and it is 100% normal.

My sisters 2014 Silverado and her bodyfriends 2014 Sierra sound very similar.

My uncle has a new Sierra with the 6.2 and it sounds the same.

The 2017 Nissan Titan/Armada and Pathfinders all have a distinct ticking noise as well.

I have also noticed similar noise from the Hyundai/Kia engines that have DI.
