Hot Rodder have been drilling holes for years. I live in a warmer climate so I drilled two holes.

If heat is a problem, then don't drill the holes. Buy a good brand thermostat.

The air restrictor removal has created no problems on my Jimmy. Others have done it too. Only a handful report issues. I like the lower end torque feel. My Jimmy has 255/60R17's. Before the change, I felt the engine bog slightly with the larger tires. Removal has improved lower end feel. I'm about to flash the PCM for even greater gains. I'm hoping to push the Jimmy to 18+ MPG in the city. I'm almost there.
