Just wondering if someone knows how to identify if a trans is a 250 without droping it. Looks like I got screwed when I bought this truck. The tranny shop told me it was a 250 but I forgot to ask them how to identify it.

you can tell by looking at the pan.

The problem is that the pans on the 250 and 350 are the same. The 200 is a diff. pan. Maybe the numbers or something else is different.

Thanks,
Jennifer

Have a look above the cooler line fittings.

If there is a threaded screw sticking out of the case with a jam nut on it, it's the band adjustment on a THM250.

If there's nothing up there, it's the THM350, or THM350c with a lockup converter.

(Oh, and there was a 200 Metric that shared a similar pan to the 250/350's, the 200 Metric had "Metric" stamped right into the pan. The one in the pic above is the 4 spd overdrive tranny - THM2004R.)

I don't see any screw sticking out above the tranny lines. Now I am confused. Maybe I will call the tranny shop and ask them why they thought it was a 250.

a 250 is identical to a 350 in EVERY single way except for that the 250 has pan with huge X stamped into it

250 has KICKdown cable and alpso has vac mod valve, all same as th350, and even same pan bolts- 13 of them

i have one of these 250C trannies in my 94 impala, behind the original 229 chevy engine, its a 90 degree v-6 3.8L rear wheel drive, same as in the camaros and such 79-84

its a sbc v8 chopped off just like a 200ci v6 and a 4.3L v6

gm made some oddball RWD engines in the late 70s and early 80s,. gas mileage years,
