the data plate reads 53680 which is a sprint custom would this also be a SP? If not would a data plate show SP info?

SP was an option and vin woud not show that. UNLESS the 5th digit is a W, then the original engine was an LS-5 454, available in SP only. Other engines available in an SP would be the L-48 350 4bbl, and the LS-3 400 (396) big block, VIN 5th digit code U. Bu those engines were availble in non SP Sprints as well. To know for sure, you need to see the W in the VIN, or a build sheet for the other two engine calling out the YE7 SP option.

Thanks Dave, yes the W is a true sprint SP. A standard sprint would have a vin starting with 5C80
While a '72 custom Sprint would have a vin starting with 5D80. I do not have the original engine in my Sprint so that's why I am asking if there is a way to tell from the data plate if I have a true SP.

Thanks again
