I'd like to put a Chevy 250 engine (out of a 1969 nova)in my 48 Chevy car, is there a bell housing that will allow me to use the newer engine and old transmission and drive train?

I assume it has to be a 2 piece bell housing to secure transmission to it.

thanks Firecars

I believe any tri 5 bell will work, however, they have "ears" in them that probably will contact part of the trans tunnel. I had to cut the ears off for my V8 install. Using a pre 55 bell might also fit since they were all from 6 cyl. motors.
Make a paper pattern of the back of your engine by tracing or by simply pushing the paper on to the back ridge of the block. Youll get a good impression that way to match up to any potential bell that you think might fit.
Thanks!

i have not seen a bell housing that will fit a 250 and also fit the small bolt pattern on the old style 3 speed.
