Looking at a '61 C40 in Colorado. What do I want to do? Disk brakes, a gear change from the 5.14, and power steering. I know the power steering can be done. The truck already has a 283. The rear gear...can the rear axle be swapped for a newer axle with rear discs? Can the front drums be swapped to discs with losing the torsion bars?

No suggestions? No rear axle swaps?

How about moving a 22ft big truck?

Sorry, I don't really have experience with the '61 C40. A friend of mine has a '67 C30 and a '87 medium duty truck. The '87 truck has disc brakes, and he was able to buy new gears for it 10 years ago and have it rebuilt. You might be able to modify a '87 rear end for the truck, but I'm really just guessing.
As for moving it, you're going to need a big trailer. I just moved a '85 Class C motorhome, and fortunately I have a friend with a trailer for large equipment. That's the best way of moving it. Tires are probably shot and you may end up having to buy new wheels for it since a lot of older trucks have wheels that are no longer considered safe. I did have a friend tow a 24' bus by fabricating a tow bar, but the tires were good on it, and he was towing it on a flat road with his '87 medium duty truck, and not very far. Wouldn't want to tow something that big that way if you had to go on the highway. Brakes just wouldn't be enough to stop it quickly.
