Hi New to forum. I have a 69 Chevelle that I was hoping someone could help identify a partial build sheet I was given when I purchased car. Car has all interior and exterior SS badging and built sheet has SS trim options B22( SS Dr emblem) and B79 (SS Ext ORNMT) and car has original 396 engine ..Problem is that i only have half built sheet (A through L) and the last item on sheet is the L35 396.. I don't have the M through Z half.. I have matched the vin on cowl to the pad on right front side of motor but was wondering if there is another spot on block with VIN that I can match.. Car is a bench seat automatic and I have also found the kick down switch for trans. Most of the sheet metal has been replaced with Good mark and other aftermarket stuff and car has been resprayed once...Having a super hard time trying to authenticate if this is a true SS optioned 69...Any help is greatly appreciated..
Sorry Tony put this as a reply to your post and not a new post....New to all of this..LOL

If that build sheet has the matching vin# then its an SS, SS badging wouldn't show on build sheet otherwise. On the block where you mention the VIN there will also be an engine code/date stamp that will verify the engine/trans combo as well (generally a letter followed by 4 #s followed by 2 (sometimes 3) more letters.

Good Morning. Many thanks. I will check for those numbers. Is there anywhere else that my VIN will appear on the engine block or transmission?
Will it also appear on the rear axle?
Also nice Impala. My neighbor has one with a 409 he has been working on for years..

Thanks for the compliment (and rubbing in the 409 thing! LOL)!
I don't know of the VIN being stamped on trans or rear end but they'd have a date/'model' code to ID them to specific year/models. Those codes would be somewhere on that build sheet if you can read them. Here's a pic of mine which is much clearer although they probably changed the format a bit over the years.

No VIN stamp on axle but would be on the engine and transmission.

Check this page, examples and locations of found con vin. These were placed to aide in recovery of stolen vehicles. Note, the are what is called the VIN derivative, a condensed version that does not include the model, its division, model year, plant, last 6 ov vinm re: 19A123456

Thanks Steve and Mike for all info. I found Engine stamp and matched to VIN on dash tag and will be looking for trans numbers and axle numbers this weekend. Will probably pull valve cover and get casting number off cylinder heads.Steve you were correct it's a JK motor..Do you know what the letters in front of the JK mean Looks like it starts with T

engine plant and assembly build date
T= Tonawanda
1st 1 or 2 #s indicate month, last 2 indicate day of month so 110 (1I0) = Jan 10th (the letter I was often interchanged with #1 on these stampings)

the casting #s on rear of block above bell housing id's what the block was and # date of bare block casting. for example many earlier small blocks used same casting # for 283, 327 and so on. There's lots of info out there if you take the time to search and x-check it avoiding the ads trying to sell something

Happy to help, exciting to know you have an original #s matching engine!
also, if the KD on build sheet to the right of the engine code is the axle code it matches the G37 below as a 2.73 ratio, should be non posi "large" ring gear (12 bolt cover), PM'd you pic of the ID page from my parts catalogue. that KD will be stamped on axle as previously mentioned, followed by 4 digit date code and single letter plant designation
