Username Post: Need help with throttle return

Would someone be so kind to explain and post a picture of where the return spring for the throttle connects that allows the pedal to return up and no throttle input ? My spring is connected to the throttle rod but it popped off the other end. I don’t know where it attaches down beside the driver side of the block somewhere ? It under the exhaust manifold just dangling there.

If I remember correctly, I hook the lower end of the spring under the edge of the oil pan. I've never had it come off. I also found this photo, a more correct way of doing it. A bracket that hooks to the spring and under the oil pan-

You’re the man, Idaho. Thank you, greatly. I don’t think mine has the triangular looking bracket all the way down by the pan. The swivel bracket that slides into the stem attached to block. Is there a bolt on the end ? I can’t quite tell looking at your picture or looking at mine from above. My swivel piece isn’t staying stationary. It’s moving cock eyed, when it swivels. I believe a bolt is backing out. I won’t know until I get under there for a better look.

The stock configuration was a hook type extension from the pan bolt at the point the spring lined up in a straight down or nearly so position. These were almost always thrown away when the pan was removed. The spring then was just hooked over the edge of the pan. On my 52 I had a stainless hose clamp on the exhaust pipe, it held a small bracket with a hole in it and could be moved up and down the pipe to adjust the tension,but just hooking the end over the edge of the pan works okay.

They are available and makes for a little more of a positive connection than hooked to the edge of the pan.

I think you’re exactly correct. I think mine was hooked the same. But, it popped off. Easy fix, knowing now where it hooked.

There should be a groove for an "E" clip on the end of the "stem" screwed into the block. Some had a hole for a cotter pin too.
