I have a 1979 305 30 over and all new everything machined and ready for reassembly , question is I coated the cam with Comp cam 103 lube (Link provided) prior to install and dang that stuff is so thin it ran right off the lobes which makes me wonder if I should find thicker lube that will actually stick to the lobes? Thanks in advance!

Over at jegs they have a break in material that is grey color, it looks like it sticks on the cam shaft, your hands and anything you touch, it may contain the zinc material.
I have seen STP used as assembly lube and then another can poured in the lifter valley.
But bAck to your point about that material you tried, is it red color?
I' m fixing to do a cam swap I'll be using that grey material and soaking the new lifters in a can of oil then dumping STP in the lifter valley.
Does it work?
I don't know, all I ever used was oil to assemble an engine, it worked
