What fluid do you typically use to test how well your valves are sealing? I was thinking something the diethyl ether would be good because of its very low surface tension, but I've also heard of people using acetone for the same reason. I have both in the shop, as well as mineral spirits, gasoline, turpentine, lacquer thinner, etc.

Use the mineral spirits, as it's less of a danger than the rest.

Rubbing alcohol from the drug store is actually what I use. Also what I use for cc'ing combustion chambers and ports. A pint bottle lasts a long time.

I picked the mineral spirits from his list.

Thanks all for the replies, I ended up using alcohol/water mix on the first round (had to mix because I didn't have much left, it worked out to be about 60% alcohol), and then used mineral spirits for the second test after lapping and cleaning.
