4.25" or 4.5" backspacing will work fine.

15x8's all around on my 66 Biscayne with 4" backspacing. They're repro from Wheel Vintigues. 225/70 and 275/60's fit with no problem.

1969ImpalaSS427 what type of 18's are on your 65'? Is the car lowered? Because with the right stance 18's look really good on a 65 - 67 Impala... Check out my 66 on 235/50/18's..... Click Here

Big rims are not for everyone that is for sure.... But a cars stance can make or break how the rims look on the car.... I am sure you can off your 18's on ebay for the cost of some nice 15" rallys for sure.....

Thanks for all the answers. I will then order a set of Ralleys to go with the car before I'll get the car shipped to Denmark. I don't know what the wheels that are on the car now. Haven't asked, because I think they are ugly. Gotta change them as soon as the car arrives in my garage !

Yeah I personally do not think those 18's look good on the car either. But you should be able to sell them for more than what a set of 15' rallys will cost.... Good luck with your car.....

According to the guy I've bought the car from the wheels are worth $1400, and I can get a complete set of Rallyes for around $350 + tires. So that's what I'll do. Any other ideas of what wheels that will look good on a '65 ???

I agree that those wheels are just ugly. I always think fairly simple wheels look good on these cars. I have some 5 spoke 15x8 aluminums on mine and they look really good. I could send you a picture of the car but can't post it. Just think of the 94-96 Impala SS wheels because they're very similar.

17" Torque Thrust II's look really good on these cars too, or some of the other wheels styled similarily.

Denmark! Wow, that car will stand out as you drive down the road. I was in Moscow in 1985 and amidst all the black cars, a 1971 white Corvette appeared and roared down the street. It seemed like a mirage....

Yeah, You can be absolutely sure that this car will be noticed on the streets between Toyota's and Nissan's !!!

I've just sold my other car. A 1966 Cadillac Eldorado that I build like a lowrider. THAT could get attention !!!
See it here: 1966 Eldorado CUSTOM

I've just ordered a set of 8x15" Corvette Rallye Wheels from the Rallye Wheel Man in San Jose. $350 for a complete set incl. METAL Derby hubcaps etc. - That's a very fair price. Now I only have to order a set of B.F. Goodrich for them and put it all in the trunk, and get that car home !!!!

those are some butt ugly wheels. but then again, if youre going to listen to Snoop Dogg, maybe you should keep them.
I have always disliked the big-inch wheels on old iron, just doesnt seem right to me. I think they look better with period-correct wheels on them. Big wheels are for Hondas. I saw a 55 Bel Air with huge wheels, ruined the car for me. That being said, I have seen a couple black 66's with 17 and 18 inch wheels, and they looked pretty darn cool. I guess you can't go wrong with Rally wheels, but the traditional Cragar SS is still my favorite.

Thanks for the compliments Detroit Dan. I am running 235/50/18's all the way around....

I think the spoke pattern on my rims is what enables it to work for my car.....

I just came across a really sweet looking big block 66 on Ebay, kind of a neat two-tone paint job, not the two colors I would have chosen, but it has me thinking...
Anywho, the reason I came back to this thread was to point out the wheels: it has the worlds most obnoxious wheels on it. 20 inch gangsta-pimp homie rollers. Lord have mercy.
I hope it isnt anybody who comes here, or I just put my foot in my mouth.

Yep, that's the one! Isn't that just shameful? I love the car, but I would rather look at it sitting on blocks than those wheels. There oughta be a law...

So, like I said, the two tone thing got me thinking. What other colors do you think would look cool? I have black interior, so it would have to somewhat match with that. They did a nice silver and white paintjob on a Chevy II on the show Overhaulin' that I thought looked slick. I wonder how black and silver or a darker blue would look. I wish I knew how to do photoshop stuff so I could see how it looks.

By the way, even though it's not a B-Body, I too favour the 15" wheel approach.

Although my '67 originally came with 15"x6", I am now using 15"x8" (front) and 15"x10" (rear). However, I am using the original '67 centers along with '69 trim rings.

The temptation has been there to try something newer, but newer usually means 17" or 18" which I won't do. I like the classic look.

15 x 8's work just fine other than messing with the speedo calibration. When my car shows 55 mph, it's actually cruising about 63mph.

What is the correct tire diameter on a 65-55 Chevy full-size anyway? I havent found anything in my manuals that states exactly what the factory tire diameter was when the speedometer was calibrated. A few posts in ChevyTalk have suggested 28 inch-ers. With the popularity of P275/60/R15s (a 28 inch diameter tire), I tend to believe that. Anyone know?

Mark, the correct diameter is indeed 28".

I always wondered about the 28" stated size.

The tires supplied with my Impala when it was new were 775-14's which were 26.1" diameter. Never could figure why there was a difference! Even the police/taxi package with 825x15 were only 27" or so.
