I have been hearing this buzzing sound coming from behind my dashboard up around where the gas pedal is. It seems to be at it's loudest when I first start the engine and when I rev the engine a bit it goes away, then when the idle comes back down it comes back. I took apart some of the dash to see if I can find the source with no luck, it seems to be coming through the firewall. I can only hear it inside the car but not if I stick my head in the engine compartment. Has anybody seen this before or have any ideas what it could be? Thanks

Mine does something like this too. If you don't rev the engine, but push on the brakes a couple of times does it go away?

It doesn't go away when i press on the brake but the noise changes pitch slightly. I was out there today pressing on the gas pedal with my hand and I could feel a slight vibration in the pedal when I heard the noise but I still can't pinpoint where it is coming from.

You have turned the heat / A-C fan off I take it??
putting the brakes on would drop the voltage a fraction and the rubbing fan would change tone.

No heat or A/C fans on. Even if they are on the noise isn't coming from there. I narrowed it down to it not being anything inside the dashboard, looks like it's coming from behind the firewall by the gas pedal. I give up, I hate to take it to the dealer and get raked over the coals but it is getting louder and more annoying every day.

Now I'm thinking that it might be coming from the distributor, it's in the exact spot on the other side of the firewall where I hear the noise. I'm going to pull the cap off tomorrow and take a look. It would make sense since the noise changes with engine RPM.

Boy was I wrong about what the noise was. Turns out the PCV valve was half sticking out and rattling like hell. I couldn't hear it until I got one of those automotive stethoscopes and listened by the valve. Put a new grommet in pushed in the valve and noise is gone, problem fixed.
