Just read 63Impala's post on what color to choose and someone posted the link to color charts for Chevy's. My question concerns paint code 912. In 61 they refer to it as Jewel Blue. In 62 and 63 its called Silver Blue Poly. The 62 and 63 paint chips look the same while the 61 chip looks darker. Are these all the same color?

I'm painting the 62 SS this color and have already sprayed the firewall - I love that shade of blue Car was Ermine White but it just didn't do it for me.

Eric,
Not only did Chevy change the name of the color year after year for the same 3 digit code, but very often, the paint formula and final color was also changed. even if they didn't change the name of the color OR the code, the color can change year to year. You have to go by the YEAR along with the CODE to get the right mix.
An example is the 927 anniversary gold used in '62 and '63. Both called Annniversary Gold, both code 927............but different Dupont formulas and final colors.

Thanks Vern, thats what I wanted to know! When the paint shop mixed the "912" for 62 which Chevy called Silver Blue Poly, their computer printed out a label that said "General Motors 62 Marlin Blue". I'm guessing one of the other divisions called it Marlin Blue.

Eric,
1962 code 912, Silver Blue:
DuPont: 4250-L
R-M: A-1481
Ditzler (PPG): DDL-12546

Those are the original lacquer formulas.

The '62 Silver Blue had more metallic in it than the '61 Jewel Blue and appeared brighter and more "silvery". The Jewel Blue was also a metallic, but so fine it was barely visable, and appered more of a shinny robin's egg blue.

Verne.
