I have the 3 first books in your list Grumpy. I think "How to rebuild your small block Chevy" is the one that have given me the most basic knowledge. I'll also recommend "Small-block Chevy performance" by Emanuel and "Engine Blueprinting" by Voegelin.

I've found that "How to build big inch Chevy small-blocks" by Graham Hansen is an excellent book that covers the most when it comes to building a stroker engine. BUY BUY BUY...

A great reference list, but there's one book here I wasn't impressed with AT ALL: Grumpy's #2 book, PHR's Small Block Chevy Performance Trends.
The book is a collection of PHR articles that go back to (at least) the 70's. It's a mish-mash of stuff, much of which is obsolete. The only 'trend' I could spot was maybe moving away from bogus stuff from the 70'/80's/90's. A sad waste of money.
I'll add a great one to the list: Jeff Hartman's book "How to Tune and Modify Engine Management Systems" (Motorbook Workshop). Best book I've seen for tuning your own EFI car installation.

I just finished watching the below DVD book.
I can't say enough about it. I learned more about the way the internal parts of an engine than I could have expected. Seeing the rebuild is, at least to me, way easier to understand than reading about it. Unless you already know what your doing you should get this DVD. It was extremely valuable to me even though I have no intention of rebuilding my engine. Converting to HEI will now be a breeze. I am also sure that I can now send my heads out to be reconitioned and I can reinstall them when I get them back.
Thanks for the recommendation.
Here is the link to the book on Amazon
Give me oysters and beer for dinner every day of the year and I'll be fine!

For non-quarter mile type stuff:
http://www.millikenresearch.com/rcvd.html
You will need a partial education in engineering and/or a lot of real world experience to make sense of it.
