1998 Monte Carlo 3.1V6.
Air Conditioner quit working. Compressor does not engage.
So, thought I'd try 1. force compressor on for a minute-see if it cools. 2. then add 12oz refrigerant-check for cooling. 3. check pressure with gauges IF I had them (another day wasted)

TO ADD REFRIGERANT-my Haynes manual says="if compressor cycles off - pull the low pressure cycling switch plug from the evaporator inlet line and attach a jumper wire across the terminals. This will keep the compressor ON".
OK, so were is this 'switch'? I can see where the tubing enters the cabin-back behind the engine. And can see the 2 service ports down below the air cleaner. Can't see any switch. (Haynes manual has one 2X2in pic=nothing)
Looks like I'll have to remove air cleaner to access the A/C service ports. And I could borrow a set of gauges.

My main question today is: Where is the low press. switch? Under the air cleaner, or where?

Not sure exactly where your switch is, but since the system is a closed circuit, just follow your lines around the engine bay. Sometimes the switch is in the condenser, sometimes near or on the dryer and sometimes on the hard lines.
