Sorry if this topic has been discussed before.
But, I’m about to buy an Impala 58 2 door Coupe.
Is there anyway that you can see if it’s a smallblock or a bigblock?
Brakes, sway bars, fuel lines or something else?
I mean from factory.
What should I look for when I “scrutinize” the car?
Any weak spots?

Any advice is helpful.

Thanks
Gus

Quick answer is follow the wiring from the starter up to the firewall near the distributor if there is a white (possibly yellowish from age) connector than it was probably a 348 car. I doubt someone would go through the trouble to change the harness. Other tell-tales are 3/8" fuel line on the back side of the passenger side inner rocker this could be for a 348 OR a dual exhaust optioned 283. Single exhaust cars would have the smaller fuel line and it would run down the trans tunnel with the brake lines.

Post pics of the cowl tag and vin, a visual will also help to know if it’s a fake. Is this a high dollar restored car? Where is the car, here or in Europe? Tell us the price and condition, post car pics too.
